I often get asked how to start with specialty coffee, and honestly, it’s easier than most people think. You don’t need fancy gear – just a bit of curiosity and a recipe that actually works. Over time I’ve tried countless methods, and a few simple starting points always deliver reliable results.

For filter coffee, a classic 1:16 ratio with a medium grind is my go-to. For espresso, I usually start with 18–20 grams in the basket and pull a shot at around 1:2.5. It’s not a strict rule, but a solid baseline you can adjust to your taste and to how your beans behave.

Here I’m sharing a few of my favorite recipes and beginner-friendly guides to help you get a feel for each method. Nothing complicated – just straightforward steps that make good coffee, whether you’re new to the whole thing or already experimenting.
