The Story Behind Calima
What started as a small pop-up has turned into a thoughtfully designed neighborhood café: Calima Specialty Coffee.
In summer 2024, Calima first appeared inside Spazio on Sendlinger Straße – a creative space known for art, design, and fine dining.
The pop-up went really well, with lots of positive feedback. Shortly after, founder Renat Mersiianov opened Calima’s permanent home on Nestroystraße 2, close to Harras in Munich’s Sendling district.
Renat brings real experience to the café. Before opening Calima, he worked as a barista at Pacandé, where he also gained some insight into coffee roasting – an experience that now influences his own approach.

Calima offers its own line of beans, roasted in close collaboration with R.D., a respected Munich-based roaster who also works with cafés like Kanso and Humpback Whale.

You can also buy the beans directly in-store – a nice way to bring some Calima flavor home.
The offering may vary over time, as Renat regularly updates the selection to keep things fresh and seasonal.
Atmosphere & Interior
The space is bright, calm, and minimal – but with personality. Natural light flows in through large windows, and the color palette of warm oranges and soft neutrals creates a comfortable mood.
A small but charming detail: there’s a record player with a few vinyls, blending perfectly into the atmosphere and reinforcing Calima’s relaxed retro touch.
In summer, the outdoor terrace is a great place to sit down with an iced coffee or espresso.
Whether you’re in for a quick stop or a slow morning, Calima is a place that feels easy to return to.
