Standl 20

Standl 20

Standl 20 is one of those places you warm up to immediately.

It’s open, inviting, and located right on the Elisabethmarkt in Schwabing with a surprisingly spacious brew bar that stretches all the way through the room, much larger than you’d expect from the outside.

Some people drop by for a quick espresso, others stay a little longer and enjoy the calm mood around the market.

It’s not a classic café – more like a spot you stumble upon and end up staying at, in the best possible way.

Standl 20 was founded by Johannes Bayer and Paul von Tettenborn. Johannes brings the beans – he’s the founder of JB Kaffee, whose roasts you’ll also find as the house coffee at Sweet Spot Coffee and even on the shelves at Coffee Twins.

Paul manages the brewbar and he also owns and runs “Bean Batter,” a place known for its specialty coffee and really good breakfast options, often switching between both locations.

I had the chance to meet Paul in person at the stand, and his warm, easygoing personality immediately made sense of the whole place. He’s genuinely friendly, open, and always up for a quick chat. Nothing hectic, nothing pretentious – just a really pleasant atmosphere.

Even though it’s located right on the Elisabethmarkt, the vibe stays calm and pleasant without feeling hectic. People stop by from the neighborhood, from shopping, or just for a quick pick‑me‑up.

Some stay standing with their coffee, others sit outside and enjoy a bit of sun.

There are a few seats inside, but most people stay outdoors. The vibe is friendly, unpolished, and very Schwabing – simple, warm, and with a lot of character.

It’s also surprisingly laptop‑friendly; you’ll often see people working both inside and outside, making it a relaxed spot to get things done.

The coffee at Standl 20 is brewed with beans from JB Kaffee, which makes total sense since Johannes is behind both the stand and the roastery.

Espresso and filter options change regularly depending on what’s freshly roasted. Typical JB style: clean, bright, and often fruity, but still smooth in milk drinks.

Filter lovers will enjoy the rotating single origins. Espresso is consistently well‑pulled – either straight or in a flat white.

One highlight: a full wall of JB beans to take home. Perfect if you brew at home and enjoy trying new coffees.

The pastry selection is compact but well chosen. You’ll usually find:

  • Cake and sweet pastries
  • Banana Bread
  • Some pastries that now also come from Coffee Twins
Standl 20 München

Standl 20 is one of those places you understand as soon as you’ve been there. There’s no big concept and nothing designed to impress – just a small stand with really good coffee and a team that’s kind and approachable.

For me, it’s one of the most authentic specialty‑coffee spots in Schwabing. Calm atmosphere, friendly people, and consistently good brews – a simple combination, but exactly what makes Standl 20 special.

Whether you’re grabbing a quick espresso or enjoying a few quiet minutes in the sun, this place always works.

Standl 20 is located directly on the Elisabethmarkt in Munich-Schwabing. It’s easy to find – just look for the long brew bar running through the stand.

All coffee is brewed with beans from JB Kaffee, roasted by co-founder Johannes Bayer. You’ll also find JB beans as the house roast at Sweet Spot and on the shelves at Coffee Twins.

Yes, Standl 20 regularly serves rotating single-origin filter coffees. They have a big selection. 😉

Surprisingly yes! You’ll often see people working both inside and outside. But: there’s no public Wi-Fi, so bring your own hotspot.
