The Story Behind Spirited Goat

Sometimes the best specialty coffee spots are the ones you don’t actively search for. I discovered The Spirited Goat purely by chance while passing through Kurfürstenplatz.
Right opposite the busy transit hub, this small and bright café immediately caught my attention. One spontaneous stop later, it turned into one of my most reliable recommendations for specialty coffee in Schwabing.
The Spirited Goat is one of those coffee spots in Munich that you discover unexpectedly and keep coming back to. Especially if you care about bean quality, clean extractions, and a relaxed atmosphere, this place delivers exactly that.
The Story Behind The Spirited Goat
The founder of The Spirited Goat brings a refreshingly international background to Munich’s coffee scene.
Originally from Hong Kong and influenced by time spent in Australia, she combines different global coffee cultures into a very clear and modern vision.
The goal was never to open a traditional Bavarian-style café. Instead, The Spirited Goat was designed as an open, light-filled space that feels contemporary, welcoming, and unpretentious.
During my visit, we even chatted briefly about travels to Japan, and that appreciation for thoughtful design and curated quality is clearly reflected in the café itself.

Background & Concept

What truly defines The Spirited Goat is its flexible and quality-driven concept.
Rather than committing to a single roaster or flavor profile, the café works with rotating guest roasters, keeping the menu exciting for regulars and first-time visitors alike.
Key elements of the concept:
- Rotating international specialty coffee roasters
- Clear focus on espresso and filter coffee
- A neighborhood café mindset instead of chasing hype
This makes The Spirited Goat approachable for casual coffee drinkers while still being highly attractive for experienced specialty coffee enthusiasts.
Atmosphere & Interior
The first thing you notice when entering The Spirited Goat is the light. A large glass front floods the café with daylight, making it one of the brightest specialty coffee spots in the area.
Sitting by the window with a coffee and watching trams and cyclists pass by is a big part of the experience.
The interior follows a minimalist but warm design language. Clean lines, neutral colors, and a tidy bar setup create a calm and modern vibe without feeling cold. The crowd is a healthy mix of locals, commuters grabbing their daily espresso, and people intentionally stopping by for quality coffee.

Compared to busier city-center cafés like Sweet Spot Kaffee, The Spirited Goat feels more personal and less hectic. It’s a place where you can actually slow down.
Coffee Quality at The Spirited Goat

From a technical standpoint, The Spirited Goat is very well equipped. The bar runs on a La Marzocco espresso machine, paired with two dedicated grinders.
This setup allows guests to actively choose between two different espresso styles:
- Chocolatey espresso Nutty, balanced, and comforting. Perfect if you enjoy classic flavors.
- Fruity espresso Brighter acidity, more complex and expressive, ideal for lighter roasts.
Rotating Roasters
ne of the biggest strengths of The Spirited Goat is its rotating selection of top-tier international roasters. Depending on your visit, you might find beans from:
- April Coffee (Denmark)
- Nomad Coffee (Barcelona)
- Manhattan Coffee Roasters (Netherlands)
- legendaryeveryday by Ben Morrow….
For filter coffee lovers, a V60 pour-over is available. This is a great option if you want to explore the more delicate and nuanced side of these high-quality beans.

Food & Breakfast Options
While coffee is clearly the main focus, the food offering complements it perfectly. A personal highlight for me was the selection of banana bread, available in different varieties. Simple, well-made, and exactly what you want alongside a well-brewed coffee.
In addition to banana bread, you’ll find solid breakfast options that work equally well for a quick stop or a relaxed morning visit. Nothing overly complicated, just thoughtfully chosen items that support the overall concept.
Final Thoughts: Is a visit Worth It?

The Spirited Goat stands out because it doesn’t try too hard. It combines international coffee expertise with a calm, local mindset.
The rotating roasters keep things exciting, the espresso choice gives you real control, and the bright, minimalist space makes it easy to stay longer than planned.
What makes it especially good in everyday life is that The Spirited Goat is open seven days a week. Whether it’s a quick espresso on a busy weekday or a relaxed coffee on a Sunday, you can always rely on getting a properly brewed cup in a welcoming environment.
If you are looking for a good cup of coffee in Munich, especially around Kurfürstenplatz and Schwabing, this café should be high on your list.
